Play: Recruiting your competitor's alumni at their new job

How to land in the new hire's first 90 days when they used your competitor at their last job.

The signal

A company posts a role explicitly mentioning experience with your competitor, or a senior hire joins from a known competitor customer. Inside 60 days of the start date.

Satellyte ties the role requirement to the candidate's prior employer so you see both sides: the buyer who is bringing the playbook, and the seller who lost their champion.

What it means

The new hire will rebuild the stack they know, with you or against you, in their first 90 days. The default move is to bring the competitor along. Vendors who land in week one flip the default.

The play

1. Reach the new hire on day one

Not week three. The defaults harden fast. Day-one outreach lands as helpful, week-three outreach lands as a pitch.

2. Send a starter workspace, not a deck

A prebuilt template tailored to their team, mirrored from what they know at the competitor. They edit, they keep, they advocate.

3. Offer a peer reference from your customer base

A peer who made the same swap and what they wish they had known. Switchers trust peers, not vendors.

Sample first message

Welcome to [Company]. Saw the role and your background at [Competitor Customer]. Spun up a starter workspace mirrored to how you ran things there, plus a 10-min loom from another team that made the same swap recently. Want the link?

When to skip this play

If the new hire is in a non-decision seat (no budget, no system ownership), the play does not unlock. Save it for the manager-and-up hires.

Where to go next

Pair with Tech Changes: when the new hire's company also has the competitor on a renewal cliff, you have the cleanest switcher signal Satellyte fires.
